RIIMPO317E: Conduct Roller Operations

(One-Day Course) (VOC Training also available)

Successful completion of this course guarantees you a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, which will allow you to operate ANY Roller on ANY Civil Construction worksite across Australia.

Rollers are used for compacting materials through vibration, impact loading, kneading, and direct pressure. Operating a roller involves planning and preparing, carrying out pre start checks and maintenance, relocating the roller, and finally cleaning up.

All aspects of this course can be taught at our training facility in Goulburn or at your workplace – and contains both written and practical sessions covering:

  • Plan and prepare Roller operations
  • Operate Roller
  • Prepare to relocate the Roller
  • Carry out machine operator maintenance
  • Conduct housekeeping activities

The successful candidate will have the ability to demonstrate the following when operating a roller;

  • Effectively communicate with supervisors and co-workers in the workplace and ensure the use of proper signs and barriers.
  • Identify hazards, apply the necessary control measures and report accordingly.
  • Understand the various soil types, compaction and ground conditions.
  • Identify relevant compacting techniques
  • Recognise the capabilities and limitations of the roller
  • Record and maintain information regarding all roller procedures and operations
  • How to Load/Unload this plant safely from a plant trailer/float.

On successful completion:

  • You will be issued a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment
  • Wallet sized Photo Operators Card with the unit(s) of competency listed
  • Industry knowledge and skills to operate a Roller
