RIIMPO320F: Conduct Civil Construction Excavator Operations

Successful completion of this course guarantees you a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, which will allow you to operate ANY Excavator on ANY Civil Construction worksite across Australia.

An Excavator is a tracked or wheeled machine, and has an upper structure that can swing 360 degrees. Work is performed through movement of a bucket/attachment fitted to the arm/boom where the machine can excavate, lift, swing and discharge materials into trucks or stockpiles, or be used as a crane.

This course will give you detailed training on how to plan and prepare for excavator operations, using the appropriate attachments to transfer materials, relocating the excavator, conducting maintenance checks and finally undertaking housekeeping tasks.

All aspects of this course can be taught at our training facility in Goulburn or at your workplace- and contains both written and practical sessions covering:

  • Plan and prepare for Excavator operations
  • Operate Excavator
  • Lift, carry and place materials
  • Select, remove and fit attachments
  • Prepare to relocate the Excavator
  • Carry out machine operator maintenance
  • Conduct housekeeping activities

On successful completion of this course, applicants will be competent in carrying out the following duties;

  • Calculate safe working loads.
  • Identify hazards and risks and apply safe work practices.
  • Document information regarding excavator procedures and operations.
  • Knowledge of the different soil types and compaction for civil construction
  • Effectively communicate with everyone in the workplace.
  • How to choose the correct attachment for the work being carried out.
  • Techniques used to complete civil works such as Trenching, Backfilling, Stockpiling, and Trimming.
